Enjoying September

Hey everyone, as September is nearly over, I finally found time to write a new blog entry about our last two weeks. A lot was going on and we continue to have an exciting time here in Japan. The last weeks were very “social” as we met with a lot of people and attended so many events! It’s my birthday As I told you last time, we had some celebrations regarding my birthday.

Toyama Trip

Hi everyone, in this post I will tell you about our day trip to the city of Toyama. It’s a fantastic and interesting city, located on the brink of the Japanese alps and directly at the sea. Toyama is the capital of the Toyama prefecture which is directly next to our home prefecture, Ishikawa. It’s only a short train ride away. As I told you in one of the last posts, we visited the Teamlab Borderless exhibition together with two Japanese friends, Rumi and Hikaru.

Back to school

Hello everyone, September has finally started and the heat has returned. The last days were very hot again and we have to readjust to the summer lifestyle after being spoiled by some nice and not so humid days. Apparently, the heatwave has not been over yet and we can stop being happy that we survived it… Besides the weather, this month has also some interesting changes and challenges in store as well as a lot of events.

Hello everyone, hope you have a good start into September. We had a relaxed day, a small stroll over the Kanazawa Oktoberfest and I’ve just come back from grocery shopping, still humming the melody that’s always played in Aeons' fruit and vegetable section (Aeon is the great supermarket/mall next door and this melody is really catchy). Just an ordinary Sunday in Wakamatsumachi. There are no new stories about our Japan adventures in this post.

Takayama and Kamikochi Trip

Hi everyone, as promised I want to tell you about our great weekend that we spent in the Japanese alps! As the heat was decreasing, we decided that it was time for another trip! As most of you know, we both love the mountains and going for a hike, so we wasted no time in agreeing on our next destination: the beautiful city of Takayama. Takayama is a small city in the Gifu Prefecture that is located in the central part of the Japanese Alps.

How we survived the heatwave

Hi everyone, last time I told you all about our adventurous Tokyo trip. The last two weeks however were far more quiet than our time in Tokyo. The main reason behind it? Japan was under control of a heavy heatwave! Having read our Tokyo report, you may have realized that we mentioned constantly that it was too hot. And these temperatures not only continued for the last weeks, they have even been increasing.

Our trip to Tokyo (Part 2)

Hello everyone, welcome to the second part of our Tokyo adventure. We stayed in Tokyo for four days, in the last post I just described one of those days to you! As you can see, we used the short time very well for seeing a lot of (crazy) sights that Tokyo has to offer. In this post, I want to tell you what we did during the other days and give you some advice on what to see when you are in Tokyo and only have two or three days for this visit.

A family visit and our trip to Tokyo (Part 1)

Hi everyone, sorry for the delay regarding this post but as I have told you the last time, we have been quite busy during the last two weeks! Niklas family has visited us in Kanazawa for some days and afterwards we went to Tokyo together. So, there is a lot I want to tell you about this visit and, of course, about the crazy city of Tokyo! As some of you might know, Niklas' parents and both his brothers spent their summer holidays making a road trip through Japan, as they wanted to get to know the country their son is spending one year of his life in.

Osaka Trip

Hey everyone, this week is full of events and one special highlight follows the next one! Today, I want to tell you about my first big trip within Japan: on Wednesday, I went to Osaka on my own to meet my dear friend Yuka. So, in case you are wondering, Yuka is a Japanese woman who went to Germany to work there as a nurse. I met her at the beginning of the year as I was looking for a Japanese person living in Mainz for language practice.

First visitors

Hey everyone, let me tell you about our weekend with our first visitors in Kanazawa! Our friends Marco, Laura and Mia are currently traveling through Japan and stayed at the city for three days. Some months earlier as they heard that we would move to Kanazawa, they planned their itinerary accordingly so that we could meet. We were very curious how they would perceive our new home. They arrived on Friday evening and after some troubles with their accommodation (they had to change it last minute) we met for dinner in Katamachi and enjoyed some Teishoku food before we visited an Izakaya.
