Hiroshima Trip

Hey everyone, we are back home from our first trip this year and it was really wonderful! In this post, I will tell you all about our time in Hiroshima, our trips and where we stayed. This place has surprised us as it is not only a very lively and happy city (despite its horrible past) but is also surrounded by a beautiful sea and island landscape! About Hiroshima Hiroshima is the principal city of the Chugoku Region with over a million inhabitants.

Noto trip to Wajima and Suzu

Hi everyone, in this post I tell you all about our second trip to Noto at the end of July and what we experienced on this long day trip. Our friend Natsuki planned this tour for us (thank you so much!) and drove us with her car all the way up to the remote countryside of Noto Peninsula. As I wrote in my last post about Noto (click here for refreshing your memory), the peninsula extends about 100 km north of Kanazawa and is thus quite remote!

Our life during the longest rainy season ever

Hey everyone, while I’m writing this, Japan is getting grilled by the summer sun and temperatures are crazy! We thought we knew how the heat might feel as we still remember the heatwave from last year yet this summer feels even hotter. It has been over 34 degrees since the rainy season officially stopped and no day passes without heat alerts. This year, the weather is even more dangerous as people need to wear masks which increases the heatstroke danger a lot!

Hakusan summer hike

Hi everyone, I hope you guys are all healthy and safe while enjoying your summer vacation! For us, vacation is still a little bit complicated and we mostly stay in our prefecture. But we enjoy various day trips, mostly on Sundays! It seems that we have started to implement a new tradition. ;-) That’s why in this post I will tell you about our hiking trip to Mount Hakusan. As you might remember, we visited the national park already twice, in fall and in winter, but never in the hot summer time.

Wakura Onsen short trip

Hi everyone, in this post I want to share our memories of our most recent trip to Wakura Onsen! We have only stayed there for less than 48 hours, so our route is suitable for everyone who doesn’t have too much time and wants to see some highlights. Due to the COVID crisis, foreign tourists cannot enter the country. Therefore, the tourism sector is facing an economic crisis never seen before.

How to manage rainy season

Hi everyone, as you have maybe heard in the news, Japan faces some serious natural disasters at the moment. Sadly, this is not only the effect of the yearly rainy season but also of the ongoing climate change. Those areas are usually all prepared for heavy rain and flooding but the intensity of this disaster was unforeseen and is causing a lot of damage. So far, we are both fine and safe, but the weather in Ishikawa has also caused worries over the last days and the rainy season is not over yet.

Takaoka Trip

Hi everyone, today I want to tell you about our trip to Takaoka Shi, a nice city located in Toyama prefecture close to Kanazawa. We went there for a day trip and explored the city by foot. So here you will find a good itinerary for visiting this city in one day that covers some major sights. About Takaoka Takaoka is the second largest city in Toyama prefecture and located at the west part of the prefecture.

After the crisis: the new normal

Hey everyone, I hope you are all doing great and staying safe and healthy. Although the situation seems to be better now, at least in Europe and parts of Asia, the pandemic is still going strong and affecting our lives. Just like you, we also have to adapt to a new lifestyle that contains lots of restrictions and new social rules. But, probably like you, we try to do our best!

Kurakake Yama hike

Hey everyone, I hope you are enjoying June and getting used to wearing masks and social distancing rules. At the moment, the weather in Kanazawa is quite hot and sunny but this all ends very soon, as rainy season is approaching fast. In this post, I want to tell you about another hike we did in Ishikawa prefecture, which was quite different to the hike at Mount Iouzen. We hiked Kurakake Yama!

A hike through a magical forest: Mount Iouzen Trip

Hi everyone, with the state of emergency restrictions gone, we could finally make a small trip into the nature within the borders of the Ishikawa prefecture. After staying at home for weeks it was a little overwhelming for us to be outside again, for more than just a short walk! In this post I like to tell you all about our hiking at Mount Iouzen. Mout Iouzen Mount Iouzen (医王山) or Mount Iou, is a 939 meter high mountain at the border of Ishikawa and Toyama prefecture (location) and about a 20 minutes drive away from our home.
